Reed Atkins, President and CEO
(William) Reed Atkins, Jr. joined the CI Travel team as Vice President and CFO in May 2008. Effective January 1, 2012, Atkins became President and CEO of CI Azumano Travel. The unique challenges and opportunities that Reed has encountered throughout his career have helped him develop a unique skillset which has been instrumental in developing CI Azumano Travel as a leader in the travel industry.
After stints in two large international service companies, including the position of President on the US division of one, Reed teamed with a former colleague and purchased National Auto Parts Warehouse, Inc., in 1991. The company was a small and unprofitable distributor of automobile aftermarket parts. After turning the company around, and purchasing several other competitor companies as strategic complements to National, a majority of the Company was sold to an affiliate of Advance Auto Parts. The Company had grown profitably to almost twenty (20) times its original sales revenue at the date of sale. Shortly thereafter, Reed was recruited to a large, private equity backed, distribution business and served as its CFO and then interim CEO/CRO through 2004. The business was successfully restructured with senior debtholders repaid and, just as importantly, over ninety (90%) of employees retaining jobs with the company. Reed then served as the Principal of his own firm, providing investment capital, turnaround, restructuring and investment banking services for service and distribution businesses, and successfully completed over ten sell side transactions in the years that followed.
Reed received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Management from Furman University, located in Greenville, South Carolina. He received his Master’s degree (MBA) in Business Administration from the College of William and Mary, located in Williamsburg, Virginia. He is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA).
When not working, Reed enjoys golf and music, playing guitar when time allows. He also enjoys the gym, racing cars, and beer, wine, and whiskeys while traveling frequently throughout the world. He lives in Williamsburg, Virginia with his wife, Nancy, and they have two grown children, Mandi and William.
